The Roadrunners

Following the collapse of the United States, the large-scale road projects that had been underway were largely abandoned. Victor Vanik was the foreman of one such project, which was being laid out through his home state of Arizona. After returning from The Great War, Vanik had grand hopes that these new "highways" would unify the country like it had never been before, so America could help strengthen the rest of the world. This may have happened, had funding for all such projects not been suspended as the country fell apart. Vanik's dream was over, and he wanted revenge. He saw the emergence of aircraft, and blamed them for the downfall.
Deciding to fight fire with fire, Vanik learned to fly, and went rogue. He assembled a group of mercenaries, called them The Roadrunners, and proceeded to wage a war on aviation. Since his grievances were mostly due to the loss of the union, Vanik, now calling himself "The Fox," was contacted by the Unionists, and is now directly affiliated with them.
The Roadrunners are based in Arixo, since it is both a primary shipping lane and Vanik's old stomping grounds. Their primary targets are aircraft factories, shipments of aircraft parts, and sometimes just airfields themselves. They are known to use roadways as landing strips, and they never have a permanent base.
Since they are sanctioned by Unionists, The Roadrunners paint their planes  all black, and incorporate the black-and-white American flag into their stylized roadrunner symbol. The exact number of planes in their control is unknown, but it is believed to be no more than six.
