AA-1A and 1B Cougar

" I can't believe it! They made a brick fly!"
-Gerald Manson, 3rd Texas Air Militia

The AA-1A Cougar was Arixo Airworks first endeavor at aircraft design, and a clear demonstration of their inexperience. With a wooden airframe that barely allowed the simplest turns without snapping off its wings, and flying on two weak 500 hp engines at an amazing 150 mph, about as slow as plane can go and still stay in the air, the Cougar made an easy target. To be fair, the cheap Juarez engines were the most expensive they could afford at the time. The designers knew the sluggishness would be a problem, and so layered it with almost as much armor as it could carry. They also stuffed  it with a variety of often faulty Arixo Arms weapons, including two .40-caliber machine guns, two .50-cal cannons, and four .70-cal monsters in the nose, and full rocket capacity. Oddly, for such a large craft, the cockpit has room for only one pilot (possibly a cost saving measure, or just another example of inexperienced designers).
One innovation of the Cougar was that the .70-cals were imbedded in the nose, with no barrel sticking out. This protected the guns quite well, but they overheated and jammed quickly. To overcome this, the designers built intake vents that cooled the guns very effectively, as long as the plane was moving.
Originally meant to be Arixo's multi-purpose fighter, it proved good for little other than assaults on ground targets and poorly defended zeppelins, neither of which Arixo takes much part in. Other countries had more use for it, but the Cougar was never a financial success, and is now rarely seen outside a few desperate Arixo militias and pirate groups.
With some of its recent success from the Rattlesnake, Arixo Airworks has tried to resurrect the Cougar by installing more powerful engines, increasing its speed to 200 mph. This came at the expense of some armor and two of the .70- cals, which were reduced to .60s. This didn't help, and the Cougar has been fazed out in favor of newer models.
